Cataract

It is a discolouration of the intraocular lens and may blur vision gradually, affecting colour perception, and causing glare from oncoming light such as low sun or headlamps.

In the short term using targeted lighting for reading and shielding your eyes from extraneous light can be helpful, but if this becomes unacceptable then referral for cataract extraction may be considered. This is considered to be a routine procedure these days, carried out in day patient units under local anaesthetic usually, and is available within the Guernsey States Health Insurance Scheme at no further cost.
